Bernadette Hohl
Senior Research Investigator
My work involves injury and violence prevention research with a focus on firearm violence, youth violence, and place‑based neighborhood interventions. I have been doing this work for over 20 years and continue to emphasize the importance or the research and practice connection in my role with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health’s Injury Prevention Program team. I am particularly interested in community–academic partnerships that address community‑identified drivers of violence and promote safer, healthier, and more equitable neighborhoods. In terms of past CBPR experience, I have led and collaborated on multiple community‑engaged and participatory research projects with city agencies, community‑based organizations, and residents, including work on vacant land greening, illegal dumping, school safety, and community violence intervention. The ideal partner for me is a community partner who values co‑creation, shared decision‑making, and applying evidence to real‑world practice and policy. As a partner, you can expect me to bring strong methodological expertise, a commitment to centering community priorities, and a collaborative, transparent approach to producing actionable research.
