Tamara Cadet

Associate Professor, University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice

For the past 7 years, I have been conducting research with community members to modify and develop a decision support tool to guide individuals with limited health literacy about continuing or stopping cancer screening. Prior to that, my research involved examining the facilitators and barriers to cancer screening among under-served and under-represented populations. As a trained public health social worker, I am interested in community- academic partnerships because I firmly believe that without the community, our research is not valid. Much of my primary data collection work involves some aspect of CBPR and recently I am working with a community organization is incorporating all aspects of CBPR. My ideal partner is a community that is interested in understanding the needs, perceptions and solutions to a social determinant of health concern that may not be ready to make a huge step but a small one – small steps lead to large steps and my role is help guide this process with the resources and skills that may be needed.
